Who will be carrying out my treatment and what qualifications do they have?
Dr Cris Piessens is our resident implantologist, his qualifications are listed here. He holds many diplomas, up to and including advanced implantology at Masters level.
Will the dental team speak English? If not, will you provide a translator on the day of the procedure?
All our staff speak English, so there will be no problems with communication.
Do you have any references or testimonials from previous patients?

How many times have you carried out the procedure I am having?
Dr Piessens has been placing implants for more than 25 years and averages 250 procedures annually.
What are the rates of success, complication, readmission and infection?
The success rate of this procedure at our clinic is between 95 and 98%. It is very rare for anything to go wrong with the implant procedure, but in the event of this happening, things will be put right straight away and at no extra cost. Antibiotics are provided to ward off any possible initial infection, and in our experience this is all that was necessary.
Are you regulated by a professional body and do you have to be registered with them?
We are registered with the professional body for dentists in Portugal, as is required by law (Ordem dos Médicos Dentistas)
Is the work guaranteed for a certain period of time?
Implants are guaranteed for life, and the crowns carry a 5 year guarantee,subject to normal usage (eg if you try to crack a nut with your teeth and a crown breaks, this will not be covered)
What aftercare do you provide?
There is generally no need for any aftercare after an implant placement other than the usual 6-monthly check you would undertake at your regular dentist.
What happens if I am unhappy with the results? Who pays for the extra flights, hotel and remedial work?
If there has been a complication then further treatment will be available at no extra cost. Travel expenses may be included, this would be decided on a case by case basis.
If there are complications and I need further treatment, is this included in the initial cost?
Do you have insurance to cover this procedure?
We have a comprehensive professional practice insurance but we do not treat patients under UK insurances. We are, however, happy to provide detailed receipts for any possible insurance claims UK residents may be able to make under their normal health insurance.
Do you have a complaints system in place?
Yes – this is a legal requirement with all Portuguese businesses. Our complaints book is empty.
